AARP Tax-aide will be offering federal income tax filing assistance to seniors and low to middle income taxpayers. Of course, COVID-19 has changed the normal filing process. This tax year there will be no face-to-face meetings and all clients will need an appointment (no walk-ins). Clients will not be allowed in the GoodLife building; documents will be exchanged in the parking lot and face covering will be required. In the past, United Way’s help telephone number 211 scheduled appointments but they will not be able to assist Tax-aide this year. Clients will need to make appointment s through NHTAXHELP.org.
Taxpayers will need to make two trips to the GoodLife building. The first appointment will be to verify identity, complete required AARP/IRS forms and scan tax documents. All original forms/documents will leave with the client (estimated to take 15 minutes). Certified tax counselors will be working from home. They will review client documents from a secure AARP site, a second counselor will also review client’s return and tax documents will be finalized. The counselors will call clients with any questions during the preparation process and to review and explain completed tax returns. Client will need to have a second appointment at GoodLife to sign tax return and receive a paper copy of their tax return. Completed tax return will be filed electronically the day it is signed, and all scanned files will be deleted from the system. This procedure is new to all of us, but we are hoping that all tax returns can be completed within two to five days.
