When the Eagle Coffee House opened on North Main Street in Concord in 1827, it was the center of social, political, business and travel activity in town.   The forerunner of the Eagle Hotel, it was advertised as “a place of opulent splendor”.  What was that like almost 200 years ago?

Joan Davis retired after teaching at Walker School, she has been a volunteer docent at the Pierce Manse. She has lived in Concord for most of her life.
